Colleges and universities have a responsibility to foster a diverse and inclusive community that reflects the rich tapestry of our society. While the Supreme Court's ruling is a blow to this objective, it is essential for educational institutions to stay true to their DEI initiatives and find alternative ways to ensure equitable access to higher education for all students.

Jose Armando is a Class of 2026 TCU senator who has helped to bring many different projects related to disability to the forefront.
To assist with campus mobility, Armando, a first-year, is working on putting together a project called Ride the Hill, which would provide a Tufts-managed shuttle service to take students to different stops around campus.

Tufts Community Union senators Itamar Oelsner and Jose Armando recently launched a petition to establish a permanent Disability Center on campus. Oelsner, elected in February, is the TCU Senate’s first disability community senator; through the proposed center, he and Armando hope to provide a physical space where students with disabilities can feel supported.

Members of Tufts’ Class of 2026 were high school sophomores when the COVID-19 pandemic left the educational world scrambling to find new ways to teach. The class has just concluded their first semester of college, which for many students also marks the first return to regular school life since the pandemic.

This time of the year is way more than just a custom or a tradition, but infact a symbol of hope and unity. Students finishing their semester and heading back home to meet with family and friends. Parents looking foward in seeing their kids and past time with them. Members of the community looking back into the past, remembering loved ones and looking back at those memories that we would like to experience again.

The Tufts Community Union concluded its first-year senatorial election on Sept. 29. First-years Jose Armando, Thy Nguyen, Anand Patil, Dhruv Sampat, Donovan Sanders, Caroline Spahr and Savvy Thompson were chosen as the seven student senators to represent the Class of 2026.
